Now, you may want to know what is this? WSoD is for White Screen of Death that happens on our computers or devices to stop working and display only a white screen. When you try to do something in your WordPress dashboard suddenly it turns into a blank white screen. You will not see your WordPress Dashboard that is the white screen of death.
There are different reasons behind the white screen of death such as plugins errors, theme related issues, memory problem or other issues. You can protect this problem but you need to know how to fix the WordPress white screen of death. Here I want to help those who are victims of this problem. How to Fix the WordPress White Screen of Death
Increase the Memory Limit
Exhausted memory is a big reason of this problem. You need to increase your memory limit to solve this problem.
You need to go to wp-config.php that located in the WordPress root directory. Then add the following code inside the main PHP tag.
It will increase your memory limit up to 64PB. But there is a limitation that you can not increase the memory limit if your host will not allow you.
Most of the time plugin is responsible for WSoD. So you need to deactivate your plugins. There are two different ways to deactivate plugins.
- You have access to your Dashboard
If you have access to your Dashboard then you can deactivate easily.
Just click on Plugins >> check the box near those plugins >> choose Deactivate from Bulk Actions >> Apply.
2. You don’t have access to your Dashboard
If you can not access to your Dashboard then you have to deactivate the plugin from your FTP. You need to use an FTP client or your host’s File Manager.
Just connect to your website using FTP or File Manager in cPanel. Once you connected your FTP, click on /wp-content/.
Ten you will see some sub-folders. Find the plugins folder. Now right-click on plugins folder and rename the plugins folder such as plugins_disabled.
Then if you can access to the wp-admin area then it is the cause of your plugins. Now go back to FTP >> /wp-content/. Now rename plugins_disabled back to plugins. Then activate one plugin at a time and find out which plugin created this problem.
Fix Theme Problem
If you can not solve your problem by following the above tricks. Then you can try to fix theme-related problems. There are two ways to fix your theme.
- You have access to your Dashboard
Go to Dashboard >> Appearance >> Themes >> activate the Twenty Fourteen theme.
2. You don’t have access to Dashboard
Just connect to your FTP client then navigate to /wp-content/. Now go to the themes folder. Then find theme’s folder and rename it. Be careful about the difference between themes folder and theme’s folder.
Just rename theme’s folder not the whole themes folder. It will activate your default theme automatically.
If the white screen of death caused by your theme’s coding then you should look at your theme’s functions.php file. If you find any poorly coded function in your theme’s functions.php file then you should fix it.
