When you find out all the dead links then you need to remove.

Google Webmaster Tools can be your best choice to maintain your site properly. You know how to detect broken link use this tool.

Just sign in webmaster tools and click on Crawl >> Crawl Errors.

You can see all the broken links.

Now click any of these links. Then visit this link by clicking on the URL.

You can see 404 error, that means it is a dead link.

Now copy the link and navigate to Google Index and select Remove URLs.

Now click on Temporarily hide and enter the broken URL you have copied before. Click Continue. Then click on Submit Request.

Now go back to your Crawl Errors Page. Click the link again and select Mark as fixed so that google can detect your link. Finally, click OK.

Broken Link Checker is the best WordPress plugin to check and remove broken link from your WordPress site. Most of the users use this plugin to keep their sites from dead links. If you want to fix dead link/404 error pages then I recommend you to use this plugin.

Just installed and activate Broken Link Checker plugin. Now go to Settings >> Link Checker.

Here you can see different settings of broken link checker. You can customize these settings.

Now you can see all the broken clicking on Found “83” broken links(83 is the number of my broken links) or go to Tools and select Broken Links.

Now you can see all the broken link with Status, Link Text, and Source.

Just place your cursor on any link you can see different options such as edit URL, unlink, not broken, dismiss, and recheck. You can do anything you like with that broken link.

Alternately you can edit, fix redirects, or mark as not broken all the links from the Bulk Actions.

There are some links you can fix redirects, it is a good idea. Just select the links and then Fix redirects from the Bulk Actions.

If you have the huge broken link then you can Unlink all the dead links.

Once you have fixed all the broken link issues, you need to disable the plugin.
